Cumin Seeds are used extensively in the food, pharmaceutical and perfume industries.

The Quality of Cumin Seeds varies with the percentage of essential oil content (varies between 3- 5%) and the amount of admixture (1 -2%)

India produces 70% of the world’s cumin seeds.

Cumin Seeds grown In Western  India, tend to have the best oil content. The odour and flavour of cumin is dependant on this oil content, which contains cumaldehyde or cuminic aldehyde as the main constituent.

Cumin seeds are extensively used in mixed spices and for flavoring curries, soups, sausages, bread and cakes. In herbal medicine, the seeds cumin are considered to be a traditional medicine. It has is classified as stimulant, carminative, and antimicrobial. They are considered beneficial for the digestive system.
